“Rainy Day Leaves” (Herbaceous Peony Leaves) Nikon D300, 200-400mm, 290mm, F/7.1, 1/30s, ISO 400

While photographing (or attempting to photograph) soggy blooms, I noticed the light falling on a pair of peony leaves. I was drawn to how the water drops were slooooowly gliding off, as this plant is somewhat protected by the canopy of a large tree high above.

Hmmmm, now that’s interesting,” I thought.

And, indeed, it was.

I shot the image in color (usually do… wider gamut) then converted to this tone using Silver Efex Pro by Nik software. Silver Efex is a really slick non-destructive plug-in for Photoshop with an amazing set of black and white converters. I haven’t gotten the chance to play with it all that much, but after today’s results, I certainly will be!
