For many years in late summer, my neighbor Nancy and her mom, Gert, would journey to a local wooded area and collect bittersweet vines loaded with berries. They would then spend the afternoon untangling the lengths and weaving the vines into various shaped wreaths to be hung as outdoor decorations. Our front door was often a lucky recipient of one such wreath! 🙂

Sadly, it has been quite some time since Gert has been up to collecting the vines due to issues with her health. When I saw bittersweet wreaths for sale at a neighborhood nursery, my mind returned to those late summer days, chatting and laughing over the fence.

We often take for granted the simple acts of kindness that happen in our lives. I am happy to be remembering this one today.
