"En Pointe" (Common Snowdrop Bud, Galanthus nivalus) Nikon D300, 105mm F/2.8G Macro, F/5.6, 1/200s, -0.3EV, ISO 250, Silver Efex Pro B/W Filter

I never noticed before today how the nodding white buds of Common Snowdrops look like tiny pointe ballet shoes, dancing in patches across the barren landscape.

Oh, what a hopeful sign that spring will come! 🙂

  1. Beautiful – is this actually budding somewhere outside?

    • Yesiree! Right in my very own front yard. I imagine crocus are not that far behind. I even noticed today that my bleeding heart is putting forth little bumps out of the soil. A few days of warmer temps and Mother Nature gets her move on! 🙂

  2. I never thought of that either but you are right. I will have to check and see if the snowdrops in my yard have gotten uncovered yet. Probably be another week or so for us in the snowbelt of NY.

    • Thanks, Scott. This is exactly what I find so fascinating about photography. You look at something day after day, or year after year, and, yet, never really see it. Then, all of a sudden, one day, you go “huh, how did I not notice that before?” This kind of discovery never fails to amaze me and is what keeps me going. Our Snowdrops only just popped yesterday…probably a few more days before the buds open. There’s hope for your area yet! 🙂

  3. This is GORGEOUS! And it DOES look like a ballet slipper, although I thought it looked like an earring at first 😉 Just beautiful and very classy in bw.

    • Thank you, Amber. I always find I like b/w for white flowers with nothing but green in the shot. Not sure why but to me, green and white images are really difficult to get looking right. I like it when white flowers have a nice soft background. So, when in doubt, I go black & white! Glad you like it! 🙂

  4. How pretty! See? Spring IS on its way!
I saw some daffodils in a neighbor’s yard down the street, but I’m not willing to sink in the mud (after today’s rain) to get pictures of them.

    • Thanks, Michaela! 🙂 Hey, don’t be such a baby and go get that shot!
