Each spring, this compact evergreen rhododendron seems to transition from a green blob to an EXPLOSION of purple-y pink blossoms virtually overnight!

"April" (Rhododendron Hybrid 'P.J.M. Compacta') Nikon D300, 105mm F/2.8G Macro, F/7.1, 1/100s, -0.7EV, ISO 1000

What made this shot stand out to me from the others I took is that hint of gold in the upper left corner. Love it! 🙂

  1. I have just started following your blog – your photos are amazing!
I love everything about this shot, especially the hint of gold; simply magical! ❤

    • Welcome Lisa! Always good to see a new face here! Thank you so much! I appreciate your comments! 🙂

(BTW…nice blog you’ve got going there as well. I’m impatiently waiting for the hummers as well!!)

  2. Begs the question…..Where does the hint of gold come from?

    As usual, another awesome picture!

    • Aw, that’s easy. The gold color is from the paper-like sheath covering the bud from which the blossoms erupt from. Thanks, babe! 🙂

  3. yes, the gold corner brightens it up just a touch – much happier than if it was all dark green. purtyfull! and i like the title!

  4. First of all, thank you so much for your words. I can’t say how much it made me smile and brought me comfort. Thank you! 🙂

Second of all, this looks exactly the kind of flower I’m studying in basic botanics. Can you believe we study grass here?? They can ask anything botanic related in the test to get inside college. Ugh. LOL

    • You’re welcome! 🙂 I just read your explanation post and will most likely comment on that (perhaps with some wisdom?) when I have a moment to put together something cohesive.

I envy you! A botanical class! I would have LOVED that! Well, maybe not when I was in college (lol) but I would love it now! Mother Nature is incredible and the more you know, the more incredible she becomes! Study hard! 🙂

  5. A beautiful Rhodie indeed! Don’t you just love this time of year? There’s colors everywhere. 🙂

    • Oh, yes, indeed-y Carol! Makes one feel alive with a strong desire to wear PINK! 🙂

      Thank you! 🙂

  6. I love the touch of gold. Thanks for pointing that out. That’s the kinda of stuff that don’t think about. Lovely photo!

  7. Beautiful!
