I totally forgot I photographed some signage for the park series! What a find on this crazy weather day. (So far we’ve had sun, showers, more sun, clouds, rain, HAIL (!), more rain and now it is sunny but very windy and chilly – geesh!).

“Grate Sign” (Park Dept Sign) Playground Series (#20) Nikon D300, 62mm, F/4.8, 1/320s, +0.3EV, ISO 200, ‘Old West’ Toning Action

Anyways, I digress… 😉

“Hours of Play” (Park Hours Sign) Playground Series (#21), Nikon D300, 65mm, F/5, 1/640s, ISO 200, ‘Old West’ Toning Action

I really didn’t think much of it at the time when I shot these – it was merely a ‘while I’m here’ sort of thing. Now, I’m so glad I did as I think they will help to paint a complete picture of the childhood playground experience! 😀

  1. I love me some signs. And I love that you embraced the fence, rather than ignoring it.

    • Ha! Thanks, Kim! Yeah, I’m a fence hugger as well as tree hugger… 😉

  2. I really like the first one!
I don’t think the playgrounds in Germany ever close. At least I never noticed any signs.

    • Thanks, Michaela! That’s my fav, too. 🙂

Not all playgrounds have posted hours, that is what made this sign so unique for me. I also thought it funny that the playground only ‘closes’ an hour early in winter! Like who is gonna be swinging in the snow at that hour? 😉

  3. Very nice Tracy.

  4. Tracy, I really like the soft look of these photos especially the top one. Great capture. It’s dropped below normal levels here too last week I was ready to put out my annuals this week not so sure. 😉

    • Thanks, Consuelo. The top one is my favorite of the two.

Sunny but chilly and windy today. Nice temps return tomorrow! Hoping by the weekend I can start to plant the veggie garden… 🙂

  5. Signage is another way of seeing a place. Another way to describe a place as they were put there by people. Signs say a lot about the people who use places, too.

  6. the first one really looks like a prison sign to me, partly due to the fence and partly due to the processing, methinks. so putting this in the playground series really makes the series darker and have more depth. verrrrry interesting…*strokes chin with finger*

    • Hmmmm, I can so totally see the prison connection! Wasn’t even thinking along those lines until you mentioned it. Just sort of thought the geometrical patter was interesting. (Oh, and folks should know it isn’t a fence. This sign was on the back fold-down grate of a Park’s Dept truck).

You seem to like the ‘darker’ side of this series so I imagine the vibe has earned me some points? 😉

  7. I am very happy the local parks are open until 8:00pm in the winter!

Great shots. I still think this series would make a wonderful book.

    • I know! Isn’t that amazing! Looks like we now have something to do in those after-dinner hours when the snow is falling and the wind is blowing! 😉

Thanks, babe. That is the plan and I just hope I can pull it off!
