The first major Nor’easter of the season arrived last night and raged on into today, ending around mid-day. Now according to meteorologists, the storm didn’t quite reach ‘blizzard status’ in our city but still managed to deliver a significant amount of the white stuff along with major wind gusts that knocked out power and caused other problems in many areas. Luckily, we have no issues to report other than the normal woes that come along with such a storm.
Earlier today I forced myself outside into the howling winds to snap some photos before gettin’ down to the business of snow removal (the things I do for this blog… 😉 )

I soon learned it was heavy, wet snow, the kind that weighs down all the branches. Good for snowballs, bad for shoveling!

Of course I’d pick you up at the airport…but with these gusting winds, I don’t think the planes are flying!
Warm temps? It’s cooled off quite a bit since last Tuesday’s 88 degrees and today is only in the mid 40’s… and raining 😦 And that’s a warm-up since Christmas Day when the high was 35 degrees.
I’ll help Jim shovel the snow and then you and I can build a snowman to go with your beautiful Christmas decorations 😉

I’m Sooooo enjoying my window view of it here (although melting fast as I speak)and your gorgeous photos on my computer… it WAS worth you getting the camera out and braving the wind I can tell you.
I know that the reality of shoveling is less wonderful, that snow-blower looks like it will be in high demand, and VERY handy to have around right now. Hot Chocolate is very much the RIGHT recipe for this occasion and your birdhouse photo just charmed the socks off me. Great photos as usual! Thanks for making my day 🙂

Oh wow, that is soooo much snow… crazy! Probably a stupid question but, never having lived where it snows… do you have to replant your entire garden every year???
Yes, yes it is. TOO much at once but living in New England, we are used to it. 😉

No, I do not have to replant my main garden every year. I have lots of trees, shrubs and perennial plants that do just fine in our area, even with the cold temps and the snow. I do, however, have to plant our veggie garden each year and also, whatever annual flowers/plants I want around in containers and boxes for extra color.
I enjoyed watching other people get some snow while my area sat this one out. Just some Lake Effect snow today but barely anything to care about.
That kind of snow is not only heavy, it’s a back breaker. Be careful! I know it is much more fun photographing it than moving it.

Thanks for your concern, Scott! The snowblower did most of the work, but yeah, it was a back breaker clearing out the walkways and steps and especially, digging out the Jeep!

You know we have a lot of snow here in DK at the moment, but we also have frost every day, so the snow is like powder. I am waiting for the moment when it gets possible to build something out of it.

Hi Birgitte! Technically, we had a very white AFTER Christmas! 🙂 It has been very cold, today is better than it has been but still COLD. I don’t even want to venture out but have had to do do the usual life errands.
I know what you mean about the snow and it being so cold. Its consistency becomes very powdery and icy instead of nice and moldable. I was hoping to construct a snowman or two when the weather warmed up. Still might be possible.
Those snow lamps are SO COOL! How fun are those?? You made a beautiful lamp – love the glowing quality of it! I think the candles you are referring to we call ‘votives’. Might even be able to use ‘tea lights’ as they are very small and in a little metal container.

Yes, you certainly got much more snow that we did – and it looks much heavier too. According to a report I saw on NECN, a blizzard simply means snow with wind gusts of 35mph or more and visibility reduced to 1/4 mile or less. With the howling going on that day, I’d say this storm qualified.

it couldn’t even manage to rain on us for christmas over here, though it was a bit colder than the past few years were (for example, we didn’t go outside and take naps on the grass on christmas day this year.)

Nice load of snow you got there! I always liked winter but the older I am the more I dislike it 😦 Or I should say that I still like it but NOT when I must be outside, NOT driving, shoveling or doing anything activity threatiening my health in such a cold weather). 😀 I still like snow though.

Shoveling a thick carpet of snow is no fun, it really hurts your back and yet it seems you are making no progress. These are times when the snow blower is like the most wonderful invention.

Lovely pictures of your wonderful home in white clothes! WE have had this white stuff for a long time now, but temperature is rising a little these days, and some of it is melting now.
Thank you, Truels! Temps reached over 50 degrees today so some of our white stuff is melting. More should go away tomorrow as rain is predicted. Went for a nice walk to the beach today – not a bad way to welcome in the new year!
