Each weekday around this time, my husband walks through the door after a long day of work, finds me and gives me a great big hug. I ask how his day went and he replies, ‘It just got better.’ Yeah, he’s a keeper! 🙂

Unfortunately today, I get no hug as he is away on business and will be gone the rest of the week and through the weekend. Sigh.

My Sweet Embraceable You

“My Sweet Embraceable You” (Grape Iris Bloom and Bud, Iris pallida ‘Princess Beatrice’) Nikon D300, 105mm F/2.8G Macro, F/10, 1/60s, ISO 640

This fact hit me like a ton of bricks while looking through the lens at this sweet Grape Iris bloom seemingly embracing a smaller bud.

Damn. That is one lucky bud. 😦

  1. Amazingly colorful!

  2. Aww… {{{hugs}}} Tracy. Hope time flies while he’s gone.

Would it be weird to call this photo cute? 😉

    • Shucks….thanks Michaela! 🙂 Me, too!

Not at all! I found it to be particularly endearing myself, and toyed with calling it “Mother and Child” because the large blooms seems to be very protective in that embrace. Dontchathink?

      • That would have been a nice title, too. Kinda reminds me of a mommy & baby penguin a little.

  3. Awww, I’m not your hubby but feel hugged. He’ll be back soon, I promise. Why don’t you come up with a schedule of fun? Some things you can do while he’s away, like getting a pedicure or getting to know a new café while reading a book.

Oh, and I’d like to invite you to be part of this really sweet online community: http://community.dooce.com, just check it out and tell me what you think later. Those people are very warm-hearted and funny, and most of them have blogs and dig photography too!

    • Awww, thanks Babs! I appreciate the hug! 🙂

I’ll make sure I’m busy – always something to do! It’s the nights that are the toughest as we always eat dinner together. Thanks for the suggestions! 🙂

I will check out that link – thanks!

  4. I’ll join the others by simply saying Awwww

  5. Hi Tracy, this is a great shot. It’s amazing how what we photograph kind of represents what we are feeling at the time…in some photos of course, mine usually doesn’t as it’s what is going on behind me that the photograph doesn’t say..lol..anyways, I hope you don’t feel too lonely, he’ll be back sooner than you think and all will be well again. I remember when my husband always had to go away on business, I didn’t like it much either.

    • Hi Consuelo – I couldn’t agree with you more! I often feel like fate has a say in what I shoot on any given day. I find if I am in a horrible mood, I don’t find any inspiration at all but as soon as I let it all go, I find something interesting. I also find that when I am in a happy mood, I just seem to see the beauty all that clearer.

I know the travel is harder on him than me. I try not to think of him being so very far away but with all the issues with the volcano, I hope he makes it home safe and sound. At least I have Cleo to keep me company! 🙂

      Thanks! 🙂

  6. Gorgeous iris! You’ve now beaten me to posting both peonies and irises! 😉 I’ve got a couple lovely irises just begging for their pictures to be taken but unfortunately its raining today.

I hope your hubby-lonely time passes quickly for you. Mine works nights (police officer in Springfield! Yikes!) so I’ve unfortunately gotten used to nights without him. 😦 My girls keep me busy though.

    • Thanks, Karma! THIS is the grape-scented iris I was telling you about! (I did some research and was able to locate its name). So, it smells as good as it looks! 😀

Aw, thanks! Cleo has been keeping me good company! Yikes is RIGHT! You’d have to get used to that lest you go insane! 🙂

  7. Awww! Poor you. (I get hugs every day, too, btw).

Just came across your blog and like what I see.
    🙂

    • Lucky you! 🙂

Thank you for stopping by and commenting! I like to see new faces around here, so welcome! 🙂 I hope you come back again!

  8. I am sure your husband gives you a BIG hug when he returns 🙂

  9. awwww 😦 I hope his trip goes well and he hurries back. The image is gorgeous. What wonderful color and framing!

    • So far, trip is going well, but the British Airways strike and that volcano are wreaking havoc on his return flight situation. I do hope I get him back safe and sound next week!

Thank you, Amber! I appreciate your comments on the photo as well as your wishes for hubby’s well-being! 😀

  10. is he back yet? hi husband!

i like the yellow caterpillars crawling down either side.

    • Sigh. No, hubby not home yet. Probably not until late Tuesday night. 😦

Yellow caterpillars….yeah, I guess they do look like that! 🙂
